Being a muralist gives me the unique opportunity to not only go into peoples’ homes, but also to get a glimpse into their lives. Often the art that I create reflects the individual’s or family’s personal style, but sometimes it also tells a story. I create in places where they live. This is an aspect of my work that I take very seriously.
I wanted to share a letter I received recently from a client. It’s always exciting to hear that the work you’ve done has truly enhanced one’s home.

Dear Norman:
We have been in our house over a year now. Everyday I still marvel at the wonderful paintings you have done to enhance our beautiful home.
We have had many visitors since the construction was completed. Everyone has been in awe of your creativity and beauty. The highlight of your work for me is the dome in the turret. The angels you created were beyond my expectations. I especially like how you were able to incorporate the “Irish” touch with each angel and the trim. Your paintings follow the Irish theme in our home.
All of my grandchildren and great grandchildren have spent many hours in the Playroom where you created the perfect environment for them to enjoy Grandma’s House. All of your little animals, butterflies, and other creatures among the trees are a great place to play - especially during those long winter months when they cannot play outside. Sometimes they even come to play when we are in Florida!
We would be happy to show off your work to any of your prospective clients.

Lady of the Garden Mural
I’m pleased and honored to announce the creation of one of my newest murals, “Lady of the Garden” located at the Wilcox Estate in East Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Built in 1923, the estate was designed by prominent Grand Rapids architect Kenneth W. Welch, and was chosen as the 2010 Grand Rapids Symphony Showhouse. Various muralists and painters were invited to adorn its walls and create a perfect backdrop to celebrate great music and great architecture, and I was fortunate to be included.
“Lady” can be found in the estate’s Conservatory and her color and movement nearly dance off of the wall. I can also be found there on three special evenings during the month of May. Come see us during the “Designer Nights” Thursdays May 6th, 13th and 20th, from 7 to 9 PM.
Click here to see “Before and After” photos.

What do your walls say about you?
Do your walls talk? While they don’t make sound, they CAN tell a story - with a mural. I’ve been a muralist for over twenty years. I help people create the atmosphere that embraces their way of living and reflects their style.
In any room, a mural can exude passion and evoke emotion. Your personal style can be reflected in your vision, painted to embody your flair and pizzazz. A mural can showcase your passion to complement the room’s furnishings, textiles, structure and design. A wall mural can add a sense of depth to a room, adding a degree of esoteric architecture that will make the room feel like more than just a room.
Your walls can say whatever you want them to. What would they say about you?

People often ask me… “Norman, what do you do?”
Believe it or not, I have a hard time describing what I do. Sure, I’m an artist - a muralist - but that just doesn’t seem to describe what it is that I really do.
I have the unique pleasure of enriching people’s lives. From beautifully decorating a schoolroom wall with a significant symbol of education to creating a vivid, other-worldly experience in a child’s bedroom, I paint murals that capture the imagination. I’ve been lucky to share my imagination with so many wonderful clients - schools, libraries, businesses, churches, museums, restaurants and the countless walls of homes throughout the great state of Michigan.
So, what does Norman Wilder do?
I bring ideas to life.
So, what can The Mural Company do for you? Probably many things, but the one thing I know for sure: We’d love to bring your ideas to life.
